Located in the breathtaking Breede River Valley, just ten kilometres from the town of Robertson, Graham Beck is synonymous with exceptional sparkling wines. The estate, established in 1983 by the visionary Graham Beck, has become a cornerstone of South Africa’s wine industry. The unique terroir of the Robertson region, with its rich limestone soils and favourable climate, provides the perfect conditions for producing world-class Cap Classique wines. Graham Beck’s journey began with the purchase of the Madeba farm, where the estate’s vineyards now flourish. The estate’s success can be attributed to the meticulous care taken in matching the diverse soil types and micro-climates to the most suitable grape varietals. This attention to detail, combined with the expertise of Cellarmaster Pieter Ferreira, affectionately known as “Bubbles,” has cemented Graham Beck’s reputation for excellence. What sets Graham Beck apart is its unwavering commitment to quality and sustainability. The estate follows time-honoured traditions in crafting its sparkling wines, ensuring that each bottle reflects the passion and pride of its makers. Graham Beck is also dedicated to environmental conservation, with initiatives aimed at restoring and preserving the natural beauty of the surrounding landscape. The estate’s cellar, designed with sustainability in mind, blends seamlessly into the Klein Karoo veld, reflecting the harmony between nature and winemaking. Visitors to Graham Beck can indulge in a range of experiences that celebrate the estate’s rich heritage and innovative spirit. The tasting room offers a chance to sample the estate’s acclaimed Cap Classique wines, each crafted with precision and care. Guests can also explore the estate’s vineyards, enjoy guided tours, and learn about the intricate process of sparkling wine production. When I’m asked to recommend a sparkling wine to rival Champagne, Graham Beck is always on the list, along with some others.   It’s made using the same grape varieties and the same method as Champagne,  but at a fraction of the price.
